A Glimpse of Forever…

One day I went to the movies with friends to see a Fault in Our Stars. It was initially sad because of the plot of the film. Two teens who were diagnosed with cancer, fall deeply in love with each other but are faced with the fact that their time together is coming to an end. During his eulogy, she says of him “You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and for that, I am eternally grateful”. It’s crazy how that quote could take me away from my surroundings and fill my heart with joy right there in the movie theater. I no longer thought about the main characters Augustus and Hazel, but of my first love, Jesus Christ.

Although their days were numbered by their illness, the love Hazel experienced from this relationship would be with her forever. Well instead of a beautiful memory, Jesus gives us a beautiful reality.

I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. John 11:25

Since the sin of Adam, all of humanity was bound by iniquity and separated from fellowship with God. Jesus came and died on our behalf so that we may live and be reconciled to our Father in heaven. Not just to have new life on earth, but for eternity. Even though we live in a body that will surely die, we can have confidence that our faith in Christ has sealed our forever in heaven. We get to dwell in the house of the Lord, forever!

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10)

We don’t know when our time is up, or when Jesus is returning, but one thing that is for sure is that He is coming back for His Bride. This will be a time when all sin, sickness and calamity on earth will cease forever because we’ll be with our King. Although the gospel is good news, we have a choice in whether or not we want to accept this invitation.

So let this life, with all of its twists and turns, joys and sorrows, and the growing pains of sanctification run its full course; because after we’ve fought the good fight of faith, we’ll be able to stand with Jesus forever.
