Dust Of Your First Works....

I don’t believe that there is power in a specific thing or action in and of itself, however, I do believe that God breathes on the things he instructs us to do. For example, fasting in an of itself is done in the earth for many reasons. Some for health, some for spiritual reasons, but when it is done with the heart to cultivate a heart that is worshiping God, it brings life. God has certain things that bring us into alignment, they mature us and fill us with compassion. If we do them with a sincere heart we’ll reap the fruit of it in Him.

A wise man once said “Maturity is the continuance of the basic things.” However, because that is so simple, at times we make it hard. We think we have to cross our t’s and dot our i’s and we’re mature in the kingdom. If we look and sound the part, we’re good. However, God looks at the heart, and that's what moves Him. Whenever I find myself “stale”, it's a sign I’ve left my first works.

Morning prayers, fellowship, worship, reading the word, exercising forgiveness, and all the first works will not only keep us stable, but keep us vibrant. Basically do only what God says do. Jesus understood it completely:

19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. (John 5:19-20)

I titled this blog “Dust Of Your First Works” because it is very common to start fresh and become stale. To be zealous and turn apathetic. But if we mature in the basic things (first works) I believe we will live in a place of being stable in Jesus. The bible says:

You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. John (15:16)

Fruit that remains is available to us if we want it.

So get back to your secret place. Your prayer closet. Your journal full of bible notes. Your questions for God is calling your name…..Dust off your first works and you’ll see yourself coming to life again.

Until next time,

Jess
